Union of Concerned Scientists

A website for an environmental advocacy organization

Union of Concerned Scientists

The Union of Concerned Scientists wanted to broaden its appeal beyond the scientific community and build up its membership.

Following an intensive discovery and planning process with UCS, we redesigned and rebuilt the website from the ground up. The interface focused on the organization’s vision for a better world, while the content featured photos and stories of real people making it happen. The navigation was user-centric and a member center was added.

  • Our interviews and brainstorming sessions with key staff during the first phase of the project not only elicited great ideas, but helped secure buy-in of the new design.
  • Scientific content was translated into material that would engage members and the public.
  • We developed all-new content for the site, including vision statements for each of the organization’s major program areas, and a green living newsletter which we wrote for several years.
  • Our design brought the faces and views of people who worked at the organization to the front of the site.
  • Along with our several redesigns for the client, we created interactive features for different programs over the years.
  • We worked closely with the client’s in-house web team on everything.
